Started publishing others books as a start with his company. He took a big risk, took the first year off and travel the world while working on his publishing startup. The experience went well and he made decent money. Then he decided to do the same for a second year with his wife. While he is still publishing some books he has transitioned more to a digital marketing customer base. They specialize in launching courses, training, etc.
“You have to be able to weather a lot of uncertainty and failure and setbacks”
“Something to be said for the way people are wired”
Tom feels Iraq was an interesting challenge versus anything else. Based on his experience the combat experience puts a lot of things into perspective, it’s not life and death as an entrepreneur.
Being prepared to pivot over time is important to be a successful business. Getting stuck into an area because that’s where you started.
Core strengths that have served Tom well from the military were leadership and dealing with uncertainty.
In The Zone (23:50)
Tom is going with what is working and not sure there was a particular moment when he decided this was it. He likes producing value and this allows him to do that.
