Craig Grossi Author of Craig and Fred045 Dwayne Paro welcomes Craig Grossi to today’s podcast.   Craig was raised in the Virginia suburbs of Washington, DC, he is an eight-year Marine Corps veteran, recipient of the Purple Heart and Georgetown University graduate. When not travelling with Fred, he spends a good amount of his time with veteran organizations including the USA Warriors Ice Hockey Program and Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS).

Serving our Great Nation (2:34)

Craig joined the Marine Corps and was part of military police due to his interest in law enforcement.  After spending times working in the corrections field he decided that was not what he was looking for.  This wasn’t the challenge he was looking for.  He decided to get out but after 9 months decided to return to the Marine Corps in human intelligence.  He was deployed to Afghanistan as part of a RECON team.  This is where he encountered his dog Fred who has become a large part of his future.

Transitioning to Entrepreneurship (6:25)

Craig decided that separating from the service was what he wanted to do after a second enlistment.  He was able to transfer out and get a great contractor job in the DC area with the skills he had acquired in the military for human intelligence.  This provided him a great paycheck but wasn’t satisfying everything he needed.  There were still issues he was confronting from his experience in Afghanistan.  He had a feeling of loss that wasn’t allowing him to move forward completely as he needed to.  Over time he was able to start putting the pieces together that allowed him to move forward.  Craig found keeping relationships with veterans was very important and being more secure in his service/experience was critical.  His ability to share his stories is very important and Fred has become an important part of his life.  He has written a book, Craig and Fred, that details his experiences and path.

Craig and Fred have gone on a media tour to talk about the book that he has written.  The story has been received very well by all that have heard them speak and he has been very excited to find out he has a very wide range of an audience that is interested.
