036 Dwayne Paro welcomes Aaron Wolf to today’s podcast. Aaron Wolf is the founder of Adventures Accessed, an outfitting and guide company based out of Chicago. Through his work, Aaron's goal is to help others build a meaningful connection to nature through immersive, experiential programs that incite natural curiosity and empower members to overcome challenges. Aaron works in partnership with the National Forest Service as a licensed outfitter/guide and is also a brand ambassador for Lewis N. Clark and volunteers as an ambassador for the Alliance for the Great Lakes.
Before Aaron was hugging trees he worked in advertising, which was his field of study at DePaul University in Chicago. He didn't care too much for corporate culture and found it counterproductive to his transition from the Marines, which led him to start Adventures Accessed. Serving in the Marines from 2004-2008, Aaron was in the field artillery based out of Camp Lejeune, NC. His unit toured in Okinawa and Japan as well as Iraq in 2007 where his unit transitioned from artillery to a provisional military police task force.
Aaron is from the Chicagoland area and still calls the city home.
Serving our Great Nation (2:59)
Aaron enlisted when he was 18 years old. Was assigned to Camp Lejeune in NC and spent time in artillery. Did a deployment to Iraq and shortly after he decided to separate from the service.
Transitioning to Entrepreneurship (5:00)
After transitioning from the military Aaron went to college. He worked a part time job that was not leveraging his skills, this was a time he struggled with his identity as he wasn’t sure what he wanted to do. At college he aspired to be a teacher but found that it wasn’t what he was actually looking for. After some searching he ended up in Advertising which was a good fit for him and he enjoyed the studies. He entered into the field for a few years but realized he wanted to do something different.
He found a strong support network made his transition easier. He had a large drive for moving forward and making his mark on the world. However, this was only part of what he needed to be successful.
This led him to want to enjoy what he loved the most, he decided he wanted to be outdoors and to be able to guide others to do the same.
“A place that made me complete and whole.”
He started his business plan prior to leaving the full time job. However, he decided to just make the change rather than wait and used all his free time to start his venture.
He has found you have to stay flexible through the process.
