016 - Dwayne Paro welcomes Timothy Lawson to today’s podcast. Timothy has been a member of VA’s Digital Media Engagement team since April 2016. Before joining VA, he was best known for podcasts such as 1, 2, Many: Veteran Suicide, Fuel For Warriors, and Veteran Empire, which was nominated for a 2013 podcast award. He graduated from American University’s School of Communications in 2016 with a degree in Broadcast Journalism. Tim is a Marine Corps Veteran having served as a Marine Security Guard and was posted at embassies in Algiers, Algeria; Moscow, Russia; and Lima, Peru.

Tim joined the Marine Corps in 2006. Enlisted as an aviation supply specialist. He wanted to be a Marine Security Guard so he pursued the path to be trained. He was stationed at various embassies around the world and then separated after.
Transitioning to Entrepreneurship (9:15)
Tim hadn’t really thought about being an entrepreneur. He attended college at a couple universities and got into podcasting. He switched to broadcast journalism for his degree. He started Lawson Entertainment to support his podcasting ventures and some other related venture he was working on. He was able to create various products over time under this LLC. All of the various projects under his LLC allowed him to get a job that he had applied for. He is looking at ways to take his venture into different direction now that he is stable in his job. With his current situation having the LLC is a low risk venture so he can try various projects that may or may not work.

Tim knew he was meant for entrepreneurship when he started moving his professional life in the direction of what he enjoyed in media and entertainment industry.
